Extra, Extra! Some More Fun Events For This Weekend!
An exclusive, subscriber only, extra edition of GOOTH.
Hey Parents! Here are a few more events that popped up on my radar for this weekend. Now, these are just between you and me, so don’t even think about forwarding this email to one of your friends. And definitely don’t click that share button below!
1. Free Skate Night at the TOBAY Skating Center - Saturday Oct 7, 2:45-5:45pm
From the TOBAY Facebook page: “In recognition of National Bullying Prevention Month, Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilwoman Vicki Walsh announce a “Put Bullying on Ice” Awareness Day. The event will take place at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage on Saturday, October 7th from 2:45pm – 5:45pm during the public skate session. Free admission and skate rentals are offered for all students and families who reside in the Town of Oyster Bay. The concessionaire at the Ice Skating Center will offer a 25% discount for all purchases.”
2. Build a Toy Rescue Plane at Your Local Home Depot - Saturday, Oct 7 9am-12pm
Home Depot is back to doing FREE kids workshops on the first Saturday of every month. This month you and your kid can build a free toy rescue plane. To register, follow this link, click “Learn More”, and the click “Sign Up” under the “In Store Kid Workshops”.
3. Make a Friendship Bracelet at You Local Michaels’ - Sunday, Oct 8 2pm-4pm
Similarly to the Home Depot workshop above, Michaels’ is offering a free craft for you and your kids this weekend. Follow this link to register for the event at your local Michaels’ location.
4. WQXR’s Classical Kids Fair at the Queens Theater - Sunday, Oct 8 1-4pm
Why, yes. Yes, this is another free event that you can take advantage of this weekend. WQXR is putting on this fun-filled day with live performances, an instrument “petting zoo,” dance and songwriting workshops, arts & crafts, and more! You can check out the full schedule and register here.
5. Take a Tour of Halloween Decorated Houses on Long Island
Here’s another free activity for you and the kids over the next few weekends. The admins of the “Holiday Houses on Long Island” Facebook group aggregate an annual list of houses decorated for Halloween. You can view the full list here, but also there is a very convenient Google Maps overlay that can help you plan a route. I would highly recommend joining that group because they also do a similar list for the Winter Holidays. Drive safe!
